Many people are afraid of the dentist, whether it be due to bad experiences, anxiety from the sounds or sights around the dental office, or a fear of pain associated with treatments. Dr. Acia Rizvi understands how difficult it can be to relax at the dental office. That is why Cottonwood Dental Clinic offers sedation to help patients stay calm when receiving a dental service.

Preventative Care

When you schedule a cleaning at Cottonwood Dental, you are signing up for comprehensive treatment. Our hygienist will use every method available to maximize your comfort while cleaning your teeth of plaque and tartar.  During this process, we can polish your teeth to give them a nice, smooth appearance that also helps prevent plaque from sticking to them as easily.

After your cleaning, our expert doctor performs an exam to take stock of your current oral health and identify any concerns or potential issues. This usually involves an x-ray of your dental structure. This allows us to take a close look at the entire jaw, the teeth, and their roots. Using these detailed x-rays, we can easily determine if any of your teeth are at risk, or already have cavities that require treatment.

Nitrous Oxide - Commonly known as laughing gas, nitrous oxide is one of the least invasive forms of sedation. It is an inhalant that leaves patients in a euphoric state and disconnects them from the treatment they are undergoing.

Oral Conscious Sedation - Dr. Rizvi prescribes an oral sedative for adult patients who require a mildly strong relaxant. This is a great option for long and extensive procedures as this medicine dulls the senses.

IV Sedation – Patients are administered this sedation option intravenously. This form of relaxant is typically used for shorter treatments and delivers the medicine directly to the bloodstream. The effects of IV sedation are near immediate, and patients feel like they have slept through the entire procedure even though they remain responsive.

Porcelain Crowns

A crown is a covering that encases the entire tooth surface restoring it to its original shape and size. A crown  protects and strengthens tooth structure that cannot be restored with fillings or other types of restorations.

Porcelain Veneers

Veneers are very thin pieces of durable, tooth shaped porcelain that are custom made (for shape and color) by a professional dental laboratory.  They are bonded onto the front of teeth to create a beautiful and attractive smile.  Veneers can completely reshape your teeth and smile. They can often be alternatives to crowns and the ideal solution in treating many dental conditions.

Porcelain Bridges

A dental bridge is a fixed (non-removable) appliance and is an excellent way to replace missing teeth. There are several types of bridges. You and your dentist will discuss the best options for your particular case.

Teeth Whitening

Teeth whitening is a simple, non-invasive dental treatment used to change the color of natural tooth enamel and is an ideal way to enhance the beauty of your smile.

Dentures & Partial Dentures

A denture is a removable dental appliance and a replacement for missing teeth and surrounding tissue.  They are made to closely resemble your natural teeth and may even enhance your smile.

There are two types of dentures - complete and partial dentures.  Complete dentures are used when all of the teeth are missing, while partial dentures are used when some natural teeth remain.  A Partial denture not only fills in the spaces created by missing teeth, it prevents other teeth from shifting.

When receiving dental implants from our dental practice, you must first book a consultation with one of our dentists. This is when we perform a thorough examination of your smile to ensure you meet all the necessary requirements for treatment. Some characteristics a patient must have in order to qualify for implants are adequate jawbone density, healthy gum tissues, and no signs of decay. Once a patient has been approved for implant-supported restorations, we take impressions of their dental anatomy. From these, we program their surgical guides and implant the prosthetic. Guided placement improves accuracy. Once the surgery is complete patients must come back to our office in two to four months to receive their final restoration.

Root Canal Therapy

Root canal treatments and re-treatments are a better alternative than extraction for most individuals. If a tooth has good bone support, a solid surface and healthy gums beneath it, it stands a good chance of being saved. Opting for root canal retreatment can be far less expensive than the alternatives.

Composite Filling

A composite (tooth colored) filling is used to repair a tooth that is affected by decay, cracks, fractures, etc. The decayed or affected portion of the tooth will be removed and then filled with a composite filling.
